Vico Magistretti Maralunga Two-Seat Sofa for Cassina

Designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina in 1973, the Maralunga remains one of the most celebrated Italian sofa designs of the twentieth century. Combining comfort, innovation, and understated elegance, it became an instant classic and later received the Compasso d'Oro award.

What makes the Maralunga unique is its adjustable backrest system. The back cushions can be positioned upright to provide additional head and neck support or folded down for a lower, more relaxed profile. This simple but highly effective feature allows the sofa to adapt easily to different seating preferences while maintaining its distinctive silhouette.

This example is upholstered in dark gray fabric, a versatile finish that complements the soft, sculptural lines of the design. The compact proportions make it particularly well suited for apartments, reading rooms, offices, or smaller living spaces while still offering the comfort expected from a full lounge sofa.

The sofa measures approximately 65 inches long, 33.5 inches deep, with a seat height of approximately 16.5 inches.

Condition is good vintage. The sofa shows minimal signs of use consistent with age and use and presents very well overall.

What we like most about the Maralunga is how effortlessly it balances comfort and design. More than fifty years after its introduction, it still feels contemporary while remaining one of the defining pieces of Italian furniture design.
