Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair for Fritz Hansen, Black Leather

Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for Fritz Hansen, the Egg Chair is one of the most recognizable and influential furniture designs of the twentieth century. Originally created for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the chair became a defining symbol of Danish modern design and remains as relevant today as when it was first introduced.

The chair is celebrated for its sculptural form, with sweeping curves that create a sense of privacy and comfort while maintaining a light, elegant appearance. Jacobsen developed the design through extensive experimentation with wire and plaster, resulting in a chair that feels organic from every angle.

This example is upholstered in black leather, a finish that highlights the chair's distinctive silhouette while adding a timeless and sophisticated character. The chair features the original swivel base and tilt function, allowing for a relaxed seating experience while maintaining the clean architectural lines that define the design.

The chair measures approximately 41.3 inches high and 34.6 inches wide, with a seat height of approximately 15 inches.

Condition is excellent. The chair shows only minor signs of wear consistent with age and use and presents beautifully overall.

What we like most about the Egg Chair is its ability to function as both a comfortable lounge chair and a sculptural statement piece. More than sixty years after its introduction, it remains one of the most iconic achievements in modern furniture design.
