Hans J. Wegner GE-240 "Cigarren" Lounge Chairs for Getama, Pair
A pair of GE-240 lounge chairs, famously known as the "Cigarren" or Cigar Chairs, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama in Denmark.
Introduced in 1955, the GE-240 is widely considered one of Wegner's most comfortable and successful lounge chair designs. The chair combines generous proportions with elegant craftsmanship, creating a relaxed seating experience while maintaining the refined appearance that defines Danish Modern furniture.
Each chair features a solid oak frame with Wegner's signature sculpted armrests, whose distinctive rounded shape inspired the model's nickname. The carefully shaped arms, angled backrest, and floating cushions work together to create a chair that is both visually light and exceptionally comfortable.
The loose cushions have been newly upholstered in green fabric, providing a fresh appearance while complementing the warmth of the oak frames. The contrast between the natural wood and rich green upholstery highlights the chair's organic form and timeless character.
Width is approximately 26.6 inches, depth approximately 29.9 inches, overall height approximately 30.3 inches, and seat height approximately 15.7 inches.
Condition is good vintage. The cushions have been newly upholstered in green fabric. The oak frames show signs of wear consistent with age and use, adding to the character of the chairs while remaining structurally sound.
What we like most about the GE-240 is the balance between comfort and craftsmanship. The sculpted armrests, generous proportions, and beautifully executed oak frame make it one of Wegner's most enduring lounge chair designs.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you'd like more photos or details, just let me know.
