Ox Chair and Ottoman by Hans Wegner for Erik Jørgensen
The Ox Chair is one of Hans J. Wegner's most distinctive and sculptural designs. Originally introduced in 1960, it stands apart from many of his more restrained works with its bold silhouette, generous proportions, and unmistakable horn-shaped armrests.
This example includes the matching ottoman and is upholstered in brown leather. The chair features a wide, supportive seat and a high backrest that creates a comfortable and relaxed lounging experience. The exposed metal frame curves outward to form the chair's characteristic profile, giving it a strong architectural presence while maintaining a sense of lightness.
The matching ottoman complements the chair perfectly, allowing for a more relaxed seating position and enhancing overall comfort. Together, they form one of the most recognizable lounge chair designs of the Danish modern period.
The chair measures approximately 37.4 inches in width, 33.5 inches in depth, and 34.3 inches in height. Seat height is approximately 12.6 inches. The ottoman measures approximately 23.6 inches wide, 19.7 inches deep, and 13.8 inches high.
Condition is good vintage. The leather shows signs of wear consistent with age and use, including minor marks and light staining. The frame remains structurally sound, and the overall presentation is very good. Erik Jørgensen markings are present.
What we like most about the Ox Chair is its combination of comfort and personality. It has a sculptural quality that makes it a focal point in any room, while still being an exceptionally comfortable chair to sit in.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you'd like more details, just let me know.
