Poul Kjærholm PK20 Lounge Chairs for E. Kold Christensen, Pair
A pair of PK20 lounge chairs designed by Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen in Denmark. Introduced in 1968, the PK20 is considered one of Kjærholm's most iconic designs and a landmark of Danish modern furniture.
The chair reflects Kjærholm's unique approach to design, combining industrial materials with elegant, organic forms. Unlike many lounge chairs of the period, the PK20 relies on a single continuous steel frame that creates a graceful cantilevered structure. The result is a chair that appears remarkably light while offering exceptional comfort.
Each chair features a matte chrome-plated spring steel frame paired with black leather upholstery. The flexible cantilever construction allows for a subtle natural movement when seated, enhancing comfort without the need for complex mechanisms. The high backrest and adjustable head cushion provide excellent support, making the PK20 equally suited for relaxation and conversation.
The contrast between the polished steel and supple black leather perfectly captures Kjærholm's philosophy of balancing precision with warmth. More than fifty years after its introduction, the PK20 remains one of the most recognizable and sought-after examples of Scandinavian design.
Each chair measures approximately 31.7 inches wide, 29.1 inches deep, and 35 inches high, with a seat height of approximately 13.4 inches.
Condition is good vintage. The chairs show wear consistent with age and use, including signs of use to the leather and frame. The overall impression remains very good, and both chairs retain the timeless elegance that has made the PK20 a design classic.
What we like most about the PK20 is its remarkable balance between sculpture and comfort. The flowing steel frame creates a dramatic visual statement, while the suspended leather seat offers a surprisingly relaxed and comfortable seating experience.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can appear slightly different depending on lighting conditions. If you'd like more photos or details, just let me know.
