Ilmari Lappalainen Laila Sheepskin Armchairs for Asko, Pair
A pair of Laila armchairs designed by Ilmari Lappalainen for Asko in Finland.
Originally designed in 1948, the Laila is one of Ilmari Lappalainen's most celebrated furniture designs and has become a sought-after piece among collectors of Scandinavian modern furniture. The design perfectly captures the organic forms and emphasis on comfort that defined Nordic furniture during the post-war period.
These chairs feature the distinctive winged silhouette that made the model famous, with softly curved sides, gently sloping armrests, and generous proportions that create a comfortable and inviting seating experience. The sculptural shape gives the chairs character while maintaining the clean and understated elegance associated with Finnish design.
This pair has been newly upholstered in premium Moonlight sheepskin. The natural texture and warmth of the sheepskin complement the organic form beautifully, adding softness and depth while enhancing the chair's already impressive comfort. The tapered wooden legs provide a subtle contrast and help keep the design visually light.
Each chair measures approximately 32.7 inches high, 32.7 inches wide, and 29.5 inches deep, with a seat height of approximately 15.7 inches.
Condition is excellent. The chairs have been newly upholstered in premium Moonlight sheepskin, and the wooden legs remain in very good condition. They present beautifully and are ready for everyday use.
What we like most about the Laila chair is its combination of comfort and sculptural presence. The winged form feels both protective and inviting, while the sheepskin upholstery highlights the warmth that makes Scandinavian furniture from this period so appealing.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you'd like more photos or details, just let me know.
