Hans J. Wegner Ox Chair EJ100 for Erik Jørgensen
The Ox Chair is one of Hans J. Wegner's most iconic and expressive designs. Originally introduced in 1960, the chair marked a departure from the more restrained forms often associated with Wegner, resulting in a bold sculptural silhouette that remains one of the most recognizable pieces in Danish design.
This example was produced by Erik Jørgensen in Denmark and is upholstered in black leather. The chair features the distinctive winged profile and curved "horn-like" armrests that give the Ox Chair its name. The dramatic form is balanced by exceptional comfort, with generous cushioning and a supportive high back that makes it equally impressive as a lounge chair and statement piece.
The exposed steel frame provides structure while emphasizing the chair's architectural character. Despite its substantial appearance, the design feels surprisingly light and inviting, demonstrating Wegner's ability to combine sculptural form with everyday functionality.
Width is approximately 39 inches, depth approximately 39 inches, overall height approximately 36.2 inches, and seat height approximately 14.2 inches.
Condition is good vintage. The chair shows minor wear, light scratches, and small marks consistent with age and use. The black leather upholstery presents well overall and retains a rich appearance.
What we like most about the Ox Chair is its presence. Few designs combine such a strong sculptural identity with genuine comfort, making it one of Wegner's most memorable and sought-after creations.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you'd like more photos or details, just let me know.
