A Superellips dining table with two extension leaves, designed by Bruno Mathsson and Piet Hein in 1964 and produced in 1980 for Fritz Hansen. One of the defining achievements of Scandinavian design, the Superellips was born from the collaboration between Swedish designer Bruno Mathsson and Danish mathematician Piet Hein, whose famous superellipse geometry inspired the table's distinctive form. The elegant shape offers generous seating while maintaining a softer, more inviting profile than a traditional rectangular table.

This example features the model's characteristic superelliptical top and slender steel legs, creating a light, architectural appearance that has remained timeless for more than half a century. The table is constructed in two sections, allowing it to expand effortlessly with the addition of two extension leaves. Whether used as a compact everyday dining table or fully extended for larger gatherings, the design retains its refined proportions and remarkable visual balance.

The table measures approximately 71.7 inches long, 47.2 inches wide, and 28 inches high. Fully extended with both leaves installed, it measures approximately 118.9 inches in length.

The table is in good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and careful use. Minor surface marks are present from normal use, while the structure remains solid and the extension mechanism functions as intended. Overall, the table presents beautifully and continues to showcase the enduring quality of Scandinavian craftsmanship.

What we like most about the Superellips is the way mathematics and design come together so naturally. Its elegant silhouette, practical extension system, and timeless proportions make it one of the most iconic dining tables ever produced.

As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you'd like more photos or details, just let me know.
