Yrjö Kukkapuro Karuselli Swivel Chair for Avarte / Haimi in Black Leather

A classic Karuselli swivel chair, designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1964 and originally produced by Haimi Oy in Finland. The Karuselli is one of the most iconic Finnish furniture designs of the 20th century, representing Kukkapuro’s lifelong exploration of ergonomics, organic form, and human-centered comfort. Inspired by the simple act of shaping snow seats with his daughter, the design evolved into a perfectly balanced lounge chair that remains internationally celebrated.

The chair features a sculptural white fiberglass shell supported by a chromed steel spring and rubber damper mechanism, allowing for smooth swiveling and a gentle reclining motion. The seat is upholstered in black leather with soft padding, designed to conform naturally to the body and provide exceptional comfort. Its distinctive form combines futuristic aesthetics with an inviting, relaxed seating experience, making it equally suitable as a statement piece or functional lounge chair. The chair bears the manufacturer’s label, confirming authentic production by Avarte/Haimi.

The chair measures approximately 35.4 inches in height, 31.5 inches in width, and 37.4–38.6 inches in depth. Seat height is approximately 15.7 inches.

The chair is in good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and careful use. The fiberglass shell shows minor surface marks, while the black leather upholstery displays a natural patina that enhances its character. Structurally, the chair is excellent and functions as intended, with smooth swivel and tilt action.
