Tulip Dining Set by Eero Saarinen for Knoll International

A classic Tulip dining set designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll International, comprising a round dining table and eight matching swivel chairs. Originally introduced in 1956, the Tulip collection remains one of the most recognizable achievements of mid-century modern design, celebrated for its clean lines and innovative pedestal construction.

The table features a round marble top resting on Saarinen’s iconic cast aluminum pedestal base finished in white. By replacing the traditional four-leg structure with a single central pedestal, Saarinen created a design that feels open, balanced, and remarkably modern even decades after its introduction.

The eight matching chairs feature molded fiberglass shells mounted on swivel aluminum bases. Loose upholstered seat cushions provide additional comfort, while the sculptural silhouette creates a cohesive visual relationship with the table.

With a table diameter of approximately 53.9 inches and a height of approximately 28.3 inches, the set comfortably accommodates larger gatherings. The chairs measure approximately 31.5 inches in height, 18.5 inches in width, with a seat height of approximately 16.1 inches.

Condition is good vintage with wear consistent with age and use. The marble top shows a minor stain, and the support panel beneath the tabletop has later paint. One chair is missing one of its mounting screws. Overall, the set presents well and retains its strong visual impact.

What we like most about this set is the way Saarinen simplified the dining environment. The pedestal bases create a lighter, more open appearance while allowing the table and chairs to function as a unified design.
