PK31 Two-Seat Sofa by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen

This sofa is a great example of Poul Kjærholm’s approach to design, where simple forms and carefully chosen materials create a strong visual impact. The exposed steel frame defines the structure, while the upholstered cushions sit neatly within it, giving the piece a clean and balanced appearance.

The frame is finished in matte chrome-plated steel and paired with brown leather upholstery. The combination of materials creates a nice contrast, with the steel providing a precise architectural feel and the leather adding warmth and comfort. Loose seat and back cushions make the sofa comfortable for everyday use while maintaining its refined look.

Despite its compact proportions, the sofa offers comfortable seating for two. Width is approximately 54 inches, depth around 29.9 inches, and height about 29.9 inches. Seat height is approximately 15 inches, with armrests measuring around 18.9 inches high.

Condition is very good vintage. The leather shows light wear and patina consistent with age and use, while the frame remains in good condition with only minor signs of wear. Overall, the sofa presents very well and feels solid throughout.

What we like most about this piece is the balance between minimalism and comfort. It has a strong architectural presence, yet still feels welcoming and easy to live with.
