Pair of GE-240 Cigar Chairs by Hans Wegner for Getama
A pair of GE-240 lounge chairs, designed by Hans J. Wegner for Getama in Denmark during the mid-1950s. Known as the “Cigar” chairs, this model is named after its distinctive sculpted armrests, which feature a rounded, tapered form reminiscent of a cigar. It remains one of Wegner’s most recognizable and enduring lounge chair designs.
Each chair is crafted with a solid oak frame, showcasing Wegner’s signature attention to detail, refined joinery, and elegant tapered lines. The gently reclined backrest and wide armrests create a relaxed and supportive seating position, while the overall proportions maintain a clean and balanced silhouette.
The chairs are fitted with loose sprung cushions that enhance comfort and provide good support for everyday use. This pair has been reupholstered in a grey fabric, giving them a neutral and versatile appearance suitable for a range of interiors.
The chairs measure approximately 29.9 inches in height, with a seat height of approximately 15 inches.
Condition is good vintage. The oak frames show minor wear consistent with age and use. The upholstery is later and presents well overall, with normal signs of use.
What we like most about the GE-240 is the balance between simplicity and comfort. The design feels light and architectural, yet remains one of Wegner’s most inviting and usable lounge chairs.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors may appear slightly different depending on lighting conditions. If you'd like more details, just let me know.
