Model 695 Armchairs by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn (Set of Four)
A set of four model 695 armchairs, designed by Josef Frank in 1935 for Firma Svenskt Tenn in Sweden. Originally developed as versatile seating for both dining and writing environments, the design reflects Frank’s humanistic approach to modernism, where comfort is never sacrificed for function.
Each chair is crafted with a solid mahogany frame and upholstered in a grey wool-blend fabric with piped detailing. The proportions are carefully balanced, offering a supportive yet relaxed seating position suitable for both dining and occasional use.
The model 695 is a clear example of Frank’s belief that everyday furniture should feel inviting and adaptable. The slightly generous seat depth and supportive backrest make the chairs comfortable for longer sitting periods while maintaining a refined, structured silhouette.
The chairs measure approximately 33.1 inches in height, 24.0 inches in width, and 23.6 inches in depth. Seat height is approximately 18.5 inches, consistent with period production variations.
Condition is good vintage. The mahogany frames show minor wear consistent with age and use. One chair shows minor damage to a leg. The upholstery presents well overall with light signs of use.
What we like most about this set is the balance between formality and comfort. It carries the clarity of early Scandinavian modern design while still feeling soft and approachable in use.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors may vary slightly depending on lighting conditions. If you'd like more details, just let me know.
